The Kelso Men’s Shed (KMS) reopened on Tuesday 17th August. The current opening hours are Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 hours to 15:00 hours. The Committee are happy to extend the number of days open should sufficient volunteers come forward to supervise for an extra half day, day or evening; it is expected in time this will be achieved.

The Shed currently has an extensive workshop, model room, sewing room, computer room with in-house ‘Wi-Fi’, a sizeable meeting room, lounge room and art rooms. It has a window frontage where items either donated to or made by Shed members are available for sale. The Shed also has disabled toilet facilities.

Membership to the KMS (a registered charity) is free to all adults, anyone wishing to join must fully complete an application form. Members using the facilities normally contribute a £1 donation on entry which goes towards the running of the Shed; tea and coffee is free.

All Covid regulations currently apply which means hand sanitising on entry, observing social distancing and the wearing of a face mask or visor (except when eating or drinking).

New equipment has recently been purchased for the workshop. These include a CNC router, 3D printer, an industrial table saw, and planer thicknesser (a machine which planes lengths of wood). The workshop has consequently undergone a bit of a transformation: tools and equipment have been reorganised for enhanced ease of access, and more efficient dust extraction systems are now available to each of the machines requiring them. Thanks to the work of Stuart, Bob Stather and John Bassett for these improvements.

Evening Life Drawing classes are expected to resume on a fortnightly basis starting early October, dates yet to be determined. Details will be announced in the next issue of Kelso Life, as well as the KMS and Scottish Borders Life Drawing Club’s Facebook pages.

The Kelso Men’s Shed is an invaluable resource for the Community of Kelso and its environs, it has been established over time by the tireless efforts of a number of individuals, who are happy to have it reopened. If you have some time, ideas or projects in mind, or just want to drop in please feel free come along.
